A rich tradition at Maternity BVM Parish started again this week, when young people led all aspects of the 11 a.m. Mass. This latest youth Mass — which happens every month — took place Sunday, when students uplifted the congregation as cantors, Eucharistic ministers, greeters, lectors, musicians, readers and ushers.
Fr. Jason Nesbit, CSV, celebrated the Mass, while Br. John Eustice, CSV, served as deacon. Chris Lord, music director for the parish, directed the youth ensemble, which included teens performing on strings and percussion, and as cantors, leading the congregation in song.
One of the highlights of the Mass was the baptism of infant Matthew, who was welcomed as the newest member of this parish, which reaffirms young people — and parishioners of all ages — in their active faith participation.
“Our youth liturgy planning team meets the week before our youth Masses, and is responsible for the planning of the youth Masses with the help of our parish priests and staff,” says Br. John, who is coordinating the planning this year.
Partnering with young people in planning and celebrating these monthly liturgies reaffirms one of the core missions of the Viatorian Community, which is to raise up communities “where faith is lived, deepened and celebrated.”
