Fr. Jason Nesbit, CSV, began serving as pastor of Maternity BVM Church six months ago, but on Sunday
he was formally installed as the 29th pastor of the historic parish. It was a ceremony steeped in ritual and meaning.
Bishop R. Daniel Conlon, of the Diocese of Joliet, formally presented Fr. Jason to the congregation, affirming not only his qualifications for the office, but of the more than 150 years that Viatorians have led the parish.
Additionally, Bishop Conlon introduced religious staff members who will assist in the pastoral care of the parish, including: Fr. Daniel Lydon, CSV, parochial vicar, and Deacon Patrick Skelly. Both were on the altar during the Mass.
While parishioners at Maternity know Fr. Jason well — since he has served seven years there as an associate pastor — it was important for them to hear the bishop introduce their new faith leader and pastor, and learn of his commitment to them as a servant leader.
“I am beyond honored to be here,” Fr. Jason said to his parishioners, “and I appreciate the blessing and the prayers — which I will very much need — and will offer on your behalf as well.”
