Churches across the country are participating this week in the 9 Days for Life Novena,
including St. George Parish in Bourbonnais, where its members are praying for the unborn — and actively working to build a culture of life.
Associate Paula Wasser is leading many of their efforts. The parish participated in Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children, on Jan. 22, the 48th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision. Collectively, they prayed for the legal protection of unborn children.
But they also continue to hold collection drives for the Pregnancy Resource Center, which opened one year ago in Kankakee.
Clients are served without regard to age, race, income, or nationality, and the resource center is funded by donations only.
“I have become friends with their wonderful staff,” Paula says. “They offer excellent care, compassionate support and equip each client with honest information.”
Each month, St. George parishioners supply diapers in all sizes, baby wash and shampoo, and baby wipes, all to support these new mothers and their babies.
Paula says the parish is committed to supporting life and she points to this passage from Jeremiah 29:11, that drives them: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Their efforts and those of parishioners involved in all aspect of the Peace & Justice Ministry at St. George, drew Fr. Dan Belanger, CSV, Pastor, to affirm their efforts: “St. George Peace and Justice Ministry continues to be the face of Christ.”
