Our podcast series on Viatorian spirituality concludes with an exploration of the spirituality of our prayer. When Viatorians pray individually or in communal gatherings, what distinguishes our prayer? Are there particular ways we find ourselves reflecting on our ministries and sustaining strong lives of prayer?

We hear from our panel of Viatorians, with extended reflections from Fr. Moses Mesh, CSV, parochial vicar of Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Bourbonnais, Illinois; Fr. John Eustice, CSV, Chaplain and Director of Campus Ministry at Saint Viator High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois; and Associates Ken and Michelle Barrie, longtime youth ministers for young people in the parishes and schools of the Bourbonnais-Kankakee region.

“The Viatorians have done a really good job of running with the mandate from the Second Vatican Council making prayer as accessible and applicable to as many people as possible,” Pre-Associate Pat McGarry said.

“When I reflect on a project, I think about the faces and the people who we’ve served and ask, ‘Can I do more? Did I do enough? What else can be done?,’” Michelle said. “Then I also reflect back on the Viatorians, how much they’ve supported us, and how a lot of this wouldn’t be possible without all that support.”

“When I sit, I grab a piece of fabric and my needle, and this is when I pray my rosary,” Fr. Moses said, reflecting on his love of embroidery. “During every stitch that I do, I will be praying as I’m creating something – and when I’ve finished my project, I feel I’ve done good prayer.”

Hear all the reflections in Episode 85 of Viatorian Voices by watching the video on YouTube or listening to the podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. As you finish the episode, we invite you to pause and reflect, perhaps using these reflection questions from the episode, which are also found in the video description and podcast episode notes:

  • What distinguishes my prayer? How do I pray individually? How do I pray with others?
  • What helps me reflect on my ministries and daily life?
  • What questions, approaches, or styles most strengthen my prayer and help me live and serve faithfully?
