Our podcast series on Viatorian spirituality continues with an exploration of the spirituality of our ministry. Our founder, the Venerable Louis Querbes, founded the Viatorians with a central commitment to teach the faith and serve the holy altar. Additionally, just as Fr. Querbes prioritized people who society tried to account of little importance, Viatorians strive to minister to people experiencing this same marginalization today.

We dig into these priorities of teaching the faith, serving the altar, and serving people who are marginalized with our primary panelists: Fr. Jason Nesbit, CSV, pastor of Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Bourbonnais, Illinois; Associate Ann Perez, vice president of mission and identity for Saint Viator High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois; and Pre-Associate Pat McGarry, theology teacher and department chairperson for Saint Viator High School.

The episode opens with an introduction to our ministry from our full panel.

“Viatorians are people on the way, always ready and prepared. We pray and then go to serve people, and when we come back, we pray together as a community,” Fr. Moses Mesh, CSV, said.

“Adored and loved be Jesus is our spirituality. Well, adored and loved be Jesus in the situation that looks awful, in the kids who just returned from retreat, in not knowing what comes next but in desiring to rely on God,” Fr. John Eustice, CSV, said.

“Viatorian spirituality emanates from someone who is sincerely and profoundly moved by God’s word. If you’re a person of faith and you take the Scripture seriously, people will sense the power of the Scripture that comes from Christ through you,” Fr. Mark Francis, CSV, Provincial, said.

Hear all the reflections from our full panel in Episode 84 of Viatorian Voices by watching the video on YouTube or listening to the podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. As you finish the episode, we invite you to pause and reflect, perhaps using these reflection questions from the episode, which are also found in the video description and podcast episode notes:

  • What does it mean for you to teach or model the faith?
  • What does it mean for you to serve the holy altar?
  • What does it mean for you to accompany and serve people who society tries to say are unimportant?
  • Do you already minister and serve with a Viatorian spirituality? What is strongest in your heart of service?
