The Provincial Council has signed on to an urgent letter to the government of El Salvador regarding the legal proceedings of human rights defense lawyers, Ivania Cruz and Rudy Joya.

The letter shares, “It was revealed during the hearing that the Attorney General is also charging two prominent human rights defense lawyers, Ivania Cruz and Rudy Joya, founding members of UNIDEHC, with ‘illicit groupings’. A trial was scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, also expected to be heard in an Organized Crime Court. Criminalizing attorneys who defend victims of government abuses represents a major attack on any semblance of a justice system and international outcry continues to be URGENT.”
