Fr. Fredy Contreras, CSV, has been a Viatorian since professing his first vows in 2008 and ever since then his responsibilities in the community have grown. Consider his latest assignment: He was named this week as a member of the new General Council, where he will be the only representative from the Province of Chicago.

Fr. Contreras brings his experience in Viatorian education and administration to the Council. He has served in the administration of the Colegio San Viator in Tunja since the Viatorians acquired it, in 2017. Most recently he was named Rector, and proudly announced in 2022 that the Colegio had been certified by the Secretary of Education in Colombia as a National Bilingual School.

It was the first school in the region to teach in three languages — Spanish, English and French — and it came after the school earned its accreditation as part of the International Baccalaureate program.

Fr. Contreras’ name surfaced again, when Fr. Nestor Fils-Aimé, CSV, the newly elected Superior General, announced his General Council. They include Fr. Victor Camara, from the Province of Spain, who will serve as the Vicar General. He has spent nearly 30 years ministering in Honduras with the Viatorians.

Br. Darius Amani, from Ivory Coast, will serve as the General Secretary. Last year he was the first Viatorian from the Region of Ivory Coast to serve on the Provincial Council of France. Fr. Gerardo Soto, from the Province of Chile, will serve as a General Councilor. He is currently Pastor of Divine Savior Parish in Ovalle, Chile.

Rounding out the group is Fr. Contreras, who will serve as General Councilor. Of the new Council members he was the only one not in attendance at the General Chapter. He will remain as Rector of the Colegio, while serving as a General Councilor.

“Congratulations to all the members of the new General Council,” said Fr. Robert M. Egan, CSV, Superior General. “You have the assurances of our prayers and support as you begin your ministry to the Viatorian community.”

Fr. Nestor Fils-Aimé will make his Profession of Faith and officially begin his mandate as Superior General on Sept. 1, along with the General Council members. The ceremony is set to take place in Vourles, France.
