The mission of the Social Justice Resource Center is to link faith to action by providing information and resources on the social issues of our time. This free website hosted by the Archdiocese of Chicago offers resources, publications and action items on 25 different issues, including the Environment.
In its May newsletter, SJRC officials address the effects of air pollution — especially as it disproportionately affects poor people — at the top of this later edition.
The newsletter describes the health impact, drawing from the American Lung Association: “Years of scientific research have clearly established that particle pollution and ozone are a threat to human health at every stage of life, increasing the risk of premature birth, causing or worsening lung and heart disease, and shortening lives. Some groups of people are more at risk of illness and death than others, because they are more likely to be exposed, or are more vulnerable to health harm, or often both.”
