These rituals from the Mass of the Lord’s Supper haven’t changed in nearly 2,000 years, but their solemn message of servant leadership — and nourishment from receiving the Eucharist — continue to resonate in our world today.
Fr. Thomas von Behren, CSV, provincial, reflected on Holy Thursday and its call to service at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, which he con-celebrated with nearly a half dozen Viatorians.

The celebration drew Viatorians from the Arlington Heights and Chicago regions to gather on Holy Thursday, where they have for more than 60 years: In the intimate chapel at the Viatorian Province Center.
“We cannot be apathetic or fall asleep as the disciples did in the garden,” Fr. von Behren said. “The beginning of the Triduum is the beginning of the great events that shape our lives.

“As Christians, we have to stay awake, respond and be alive,” he added. “We cannot be numb and let it be just another Holy Thursday. We have to stop and take notice.
“For it is in the cross that we are saved — and it is in the resurrection that we share eternal life.”
