A dairy farmer, a parish bookkeeper and a former high school principal from Las Vegas.
They came from different walks of life, yet this much they share: After 10 years of renewing their commitments as Viatorian associates, they made it official. They made their definitive commitments as Viatorians, expressing their desires for a deeper spiritual life — and one that is God-centered.
Specifically, Associates Connie Gerber of Las Vegas, and David and Susan Surprenant of Manteno, IL all made their definitive commitments. Ken and Michelle Barrie of St. Anne, IL, were unable to attend.
At the same Mass, a group of adults from Chicago joined the Viatorian Community for the first time. They made their first commitments — for a period of two years — after completing a two-year discernment program.
They included: Jackie Dupon, Betty Faraci, Gema Rangel, Jose Rangel, Susana Tellez, Enrique Valdovinos and Ivy Vera. John Dussman was unable to attend.
Fr. Thomas von Behren, CSV, provincial, was the main presider at the Mass at the venerable St. Viator Parish, founded by Viatorians more than 125
years ago. Associate Tim Schwarz offered a reflection, while parishioners provided music — in English and Spanish — as well as a dinner and entertainment.
“What a wonderful celebration of our cultures, of our faith and of the Viatorian Community,” Fr. von Behren said. “Thank you for making this important commitment to the Viatorian Community.”
