This month, Cristo Rey St. Viator College Preparatory High School in North Las Vegas announced Patrick Miller as its new chairman of the board of trustees. Miller has served as a trustee since 2018 and brings a strong business background to the role, as a Senior Vice President of Hospitality with MGM Resorts. Most recently, Miller chaired the Corporate Work Study Jobs Committee at the school.

However, Miller also brings an intangible to his leadership position: He grew up with the Viatorian mission.

His parents, Dan and Mary Jane, were both lay associates with the Viatorians. While Dan passed away in 2014, Mary Jane continues to be a member of the Viatorian Community. The couple made their first commitments as associates in 2006 after having worked with Viatorians at Bishop Gorman High School, where Dan taught mathematics and coached basketball, and at their parish, St. Thomas More Catholic Community, started by Viatorians. Miller’s sister, Megan Landis, also is a Viatorian associate, having made her first commitment in 2017.

Viatorians opened Cristo Rey St. Viator in 2019. The school is part of the Cristo Rey Network, and educates students through a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, integrated with a relevant work-study experience. But with St. Viator right in its name, the school works to ensure its Viatorian identity and mission.

The newly named members of its Board of Governors and Board of Trustees underscores its Viatorian identity. For starters, Fr. Thomas von Behren, CSV, the founding president of the school, has been named treasurer of the Board of Governors, while Fr. Richard Rinn, CSV, Pastor of St. Viator Catholic Community in Las Vegas, has been named Assistant Provincial of the Board of Governors. Fr. Rinn also served on the Board of Trustees for the last five years.

Rounding out the Board of Governors are Fr. Mark Francis, CSV, Provincial, Fr. Edgar Suarez, CSV and Br. Michael Gosch, CSV.

In other announcements, Viatorian Associate James Thomas, CFO of the Clerics of St. Viator, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees, as well as Sharon Braddy-McKoy, Senior Vice President/Chief Human Resources Officer of Southwest Gas.

Viatorian Associate Deborah Perez also serves as Director of Corporate Work Study Operations.
