Fr. John Van Wiel, CSV, spent more than 40 years teaching and serving as an administrator at different Viatorian high schools. Now retired, he continues to keep his mind nimble with a pair of interesting hobbies: fishing and watercolor painting.

Fr. Van Wiel is the second Viatorian to be featured in a new series focused on hobbies and interests in the Viatorian Voices: Conversations on the Way podcasts. In this latest 15-minute episode, he describes fly fishing in Breckenridge, CO, and from a boat in Lake of the Ozarks. But he also shares his love of watercolors and all that is involved with the media.

“It challenges my brain,” Fr. Van Wiel says. “For me, it’s not so much of a prayerful experience as an intellectual one.”
