The Knights of Columbus – St. Viator’s Council No. 745 – in Kankakee, IL erected this War Memorial building as a living monument to the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the country’s cause in World War I and for all those who participated in the nation’s defense.
It was formally dedicated on Oct. 12, 1924 after a Mass said by the Right Rev. Msgr. Gerasime M. Legris, DD – graduate of St. Viator College, Class of 1874. The Rev. John P. O’ Mahoney, CSV, treasurer of St. Viator College, delivered the sermon.
Rev. John W. R. Maguire, CSV, ’11, chaplain of the council, gave an address on the accomplishments of the Knights of Columbus in Kankakee and the Rev. William J. Bergin, CSV, addressed the untiring labor of its members.
